As a luxury travel destination, Costa Rica stands out among its other Central American neighbors. The country has long been a bastion of stability and security in the region, and its government has made environmentally friendly tourism a high priority, and a quarter of the country comprises protected lands and national parks. This means ample opportunities for exploring natural scenery, like jungles, cloud forests, and volcanoes. Oryou can simply relax on of the country’s pristine beaches; they are among the finest in the region.
The country is the perfect destination for the active outdoor enthusiast and is home to a thriving industry of tour operators specializing in jungle adventures, hiking, wild life explorations, mountain biking, white water rafting, surfing, and much more. Those who prefer to holiday among more developed outdoor environs will find plenty of world-class golf courses. We could write an entire article about where to go in Argentina—and we may do just that in a future post. Until then, we’re turning our attentions to Patagonia. This sparsely populated region that spans the south of Argentina and neighboring Chile is absolutely enchanting. Here, you’ll find majestic vistas of snow-capped peaks, deep blue glaciers, sheer cliffs and fjords, and crystal clear rivers and lakes. The variety of terrains offers lots of opportunities hiking, ice trekking, boating, mountain biking, kayaking, horseback riding, and more.
A tour of Patagonia can be as Spartan or luxurious as you like. Naturally, we prefer the latter. There are countless operators, like Lightfoot Travel and Ker & Downey, that offer unforgettable experiential travel packages. You’ll be exploring the region in comfort and style in a fully furnished Jeep, tracking pumas, viewing sea lions and penguins, hiking through sub-arctic rain forests, and they’ll put you up in the finest luxury accommodations at each stop.
If the open wild of South or Central America isn’t quite your speed, why not consider a vibrant capital city and cultural center in Southern Europe. For that, look no further than Madrid. The Spanish capital offers all the conveniences of a major modern city with plentyof old world charm. Art enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice in terms of museums. The Museo del Prado houses a collection of iconic works of art by legends like el Greco, Velasquez, and Goya. Those with more modernist tastes can check out the Reina Sofia, where many of Picasso’s most famous works, likeGuernica, are on display. Moreover, history buffs will love touring the Royal Palace, wandering the cities many cobblestoned streets, or taking a day trip to the nearby medieval citadel of Toledo.
Madrid has a stellar food scene. The best way to dine is by roaming from bar to bar, ordering a drink and snacking on pinchos. It’s a literal moveable feast. The Mercado San Miguel is also not to be missed. Here, you can take a gastronomic tour of Spain under one roof. Various vendors offer everything from Iberico ham and chorizo to fine wines and cheese and everything else in between. In terms of accommodations, you’ll have plenty luxury brand hotels to choose from, but for unique experience, why not rent a luxury apartment?
